Win, Place or Show and Journey into Fear: Stan Douglas: Interest and Interpretations Stan Douglas is a contemporary Canadian artist specializing in photography, video and installation art (Gale, 1997). His works have been showcased internationally and among his most popular pieces are Win, Place or Show (1998) and Journey into Fear (2002). Criticism of Douglas’s work ranges from “deliberately frustrating” and boredom-inducing (Hackworth, 2002), to “subtly theatrical” with “elegant efforts” (Solomon, 1999), while others recognize the importance of such Douglas themes as lost time (Dorment, 200) and “the occlusion of space” (Lebredt, 2001) and still others regard Douglas’s art as multi-faceted existentialism (Birnbaum, 2000).
