Eve Enslers book The Vagina Monologues is not as good as the performance art piece of the same name. But it is still very good indeed because it is a celebration of female sexuality in a culture in which female sexuality is still something that is all too often not talked about. Women are certainly sexualized in this culture, but this is not the same thing as being sexual: Womens sexuality all too often exists as the object of male desires. Women all too often fail to see their bodies as their bodies but rather see them as a possession of the men in their lives, a possession that the men have somehow lost partial control over and are struggling to get back.
