The book itself is about the changes that have taken place in many Colombian men who have converted to Evangelical Christianity (protestantism) from Catholicism. These changes include a renewed involvement with their wives and with the domestic sphere in general, as well as an interest in education and a reduction of destructive behaviors like infidelity, gambling, and excessive drinking.
