Racism & Athletics: Neglecting Minorities for Advancement
This paper examines the existence of subtle but pervasive discrimination in athletics, both university and professional. This discrimination takes the form of denying minorities advancement into senior positions of authority in administration and management. This paper will consider the statistical evidence for such a claim and make conclusions based on a loosely interpreted economic model of cost versus benefit. Finally, the paper will discuss some of the proactive measures that are being taken to alleviate such discrimination.
