Innate foundations become very important if one is referring to child development as a product of evolution. Gray stresses that the first 2 years of life show developmental change at a rapid rate, before a review of traits that seem to be innate, as in the child's natural curiosity to do with what is around him or her, the ability to follow an object and, later, to understand that this object still exists when it is taken to another room or otherwise taken out of view.
