During his training, Minuchin began practicing family therapy. Family is the immediate family with whom the individual lives, the extended family of relatives and friends, and the community at large. Drawing on family systems theories, we show how between- family, within-family, and within-individual differences emerge from family interactions in adulthood (Bermann & Fingerman, 2000). Minuchin's writing included observances of the boundaries within families and between families and outsiders. Family systems therapy provides the family with the ability to distinguish between what is actual and what is a construct of the family dynamic. 20 pgs. Bibliography lists 20 sources.
