Overall, it is the need for a particular memory that this essay contends causes false memory. Whether it be performance oriented such as the desperate desire to tell the truth, or confusion of images or words that the brain wishes to recall, or the need for realistic dreams to purge something from the subconscious- all are forms of “wanting” and seem to be the major truth in all false memories. The real desire to have the memory or be able to recall a particular thing opens the gate for the mind to create this memory in order to satisfy a need.
