The impact of globalization and increased interdependence in the international system on state sovereignty
Recent years have seen a massive rise in globalization, with accompanying increased interdependence of countries in the international system. This clearly poses challenges to state sovereignty. Sovereignty is defined as “the absolute and independent authority of a community, nation, etc.” It has also been noted that in the modern world, sovereignty is mainly linked to the idea that states are both autonomous and independent from each other, and thus can choose their own type of government.
