Rousseau's Social Contract and Machiavelli's The Prince. This paper compares the view of government by Machiavelli and Rousseau. Machiavelli and Rousseau both envisioned their own kinds of government. Rousseau believed that true equality and freedom could come about by the individual sacrificing his own interests for the sake of the general will.
