Important Criticisms of Dualism in Philosophy of Mind Dualism is the theory that the brain and the mind are separate, based on the fact that there are two different kinds of things in the world, physical and mental. Descartes pioneered this theory, and put forward two apparently strong arguments for it. These arguments are now referred to as Cartesian Dualism.
