Analysis on the Influence of Thomas Carlyle on Ralph Waldo Emerson This paper will examine the realtionship between Thomas Carlylye and Ralph Waldo Emerson in relation to Transcendentalism. By understanding Carlyle's perspectives in the early philosophy of Goethe, we can realize the influence on Emerson through this older Scottish writer, especially in the Transcendental philosophy he was to create. Emerson was greatly in admiration of Carlyle for his reason, logic, and religious convictions about Nature, and this will analyzed within this paper.
