Is Nursing an Art, a Science, or Both It is the purpose of this paper to examine the question of whether nursing is an art, a science or both. Using research based evidence, this paper concludes that nursing is indeed a combination of both art and science. Art, being the human and subjective elements of nursing such as empathy, quality of care, understanding, etc. Science being the application of medical training and knowledge to a specific set of problems with a predicted outcome.
