Understanding Satire: Political and Enlightenment Ideals in A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift and Candide by Voltaire
In this paper we can analyze how both Swift and Voltaire offer political and Enlightenment satires, which reflect the irrational, thought processes that were within their social constructs. By analyzing these writings, we can realize the power of humor through satire to help bring about new and challenging perspectives on reasoning and politics within the European arena over the centuries.
