The Use of Memory in A Tale of Two Cities and The Mill on the Floss This paper addresses the topic of how memory moves the story in the novels A Tale of Two Cities and The Mill on the Floss. The characters involved in both novels are chained by their pasts and unable to look forward to their future in many ways. Both novels involve the deaths of principle characters to resolve the conflict. In all circumstances, these characters felt that they had achieved their goals with their deaths.
