The Representation of the Ghost in Silko's Ceremony.
Tayo's lover, "the Montano woman," becomes only the most visible of the three ghosts who make up Tayo's personal triad. Tayo's survivor's guilt is compounded by the death of his cousin and his uncle. Tayo's Americanness comes from his ability to recreate himself, casting out his white identity. Tayo sees that the "destroyers" are his true enemy. While one of Tayo's ghosts is a spiritual guide, the other two are vengeful. 5 pgs. Bibliography lists 1 source.
