The Chrysanthemums and The Pearl: A Comparative Analysis
This three page undergraduate paper examines The Pearl and The Chrysanthemums. The author notes that both stories exhibit SteinbeckÂ’s insightful grasp of human nature and his ability to craft stories which reveal the negative aspects of human nature. In The Pearl the possession of something with great value ultimately corrupts everyone who comes in contact with it, while in The Chrysanthemums, the garden sanctuary of the protagonist serves as a barrier against the corruption of the outside world.
