Distinctive Values Present in Lorraine Hansberrys Raisin in the Sun
In Lorraine HansberryÂ’s classic play, "A Raisin in the Sun," the characterization of the Youngers demonstrates a wide range of personal values. The values in this play show to the audience that the lives of the characters might be impacted by the same factors, yet there are different and distinctive responses which can emerge through each character. As the Youngers approach their shared problems, the manner in which they identify the significance of each problem helps suggest which values are important to them, and the methods through which they work together to resolve their shared problems indicates the ability to communicate their personal values to each other and to integrate these family values into achieving goals. This paper demonstrates how the expression of values within the play help to clarify what is important to the characters.
