Crime and Gender. A great deal of ambivalence has surrounded the female offender throughout history. This is primarily because gender differences have made the punishment of women a difficult task. Though times may have changed, even in terms of women's crime and punishment, the relationship between gender and criminality remains controversial and poorly understood.
