Thomas Hobbes and Capital Punishment. This paper discusses the issue of capital punishment in the context of Thomas Hobbes' views on the Leviathan state. The paper contends that Hobbes would have supported the death penalty as a vehicle through which the Leviathan could frighten people and implement social control.
