The Consumer Movement. This paper discusses the consumer movement, which represented the effort to protect consumers' interests in the face of big business. Promoting consumer protection, the movement has always favored cooperative and other reformist efforts, since it sought to make big business accountable to the consumer. In light of the triumph of market forces, and the failure of Ralph Nader to achieve broad popular support, it is clear that the consumer movement has not succeeded in achieving consumer sovereignty. 9 pgs.
