Supervision Strategies on a Whaling Ship and in Crisis Situations.
This paper investigates the book In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by author Nathanial Philbrick and demonstrate that the management and the organizational activities that occurred on a ill- fated whaling ship are remarkably similar to the strategies that are found in "modern" business management. A focus is on leadership and motivation, as well as diversity among workers and problem- solving and discipline. The book Supervision Today (3rd Edition) by Stephen P. Robbins shall be used to supplement this discussion. 6-pages, bibliography lists 2 sources.
