Mythologizing the Mahatma: The Relationship Between Mythic Form and Political Content in Raja Rao's Kanthapura . This paper will argue that the tension between these two often contradictory levels of writing - the mythic/poetic and the political/prosaic - is the defining characteristic of the novel.
