Art and Culture: An Analysis of the Influence of Marxist Theory and Ideology
This twelve-page undergraduate paper examines the influence of Marxist theory and ideology on current methodology. The author notes that examining Marxist art history and contemplating the social history of art within ideological, political and historical contexts has led to debate that the fragmented and confused state of the social history of art is the result of the rejection by many radical cultural and art historians of Marxism. The reasons for this are ultimately to be found in the material conditions of late twentieth century culture and society, and in the political disorientation of liberals and most of the Left.
