Thematic Influences in Herland, Hawaiis Last Queen, and 19th Century American Expansionism This paper describes three things: the novel Her Land by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the annexation of Hawaii by the United States, and the spirit of expansionism rampant in the West during the 19th century.
