The Draft: An Analysis of Foreign Policy and National Defense Perspectives
This three page undergraduate paper examines the debate over reinstating the draft. The author notes that because of the personnel and deployment requirements imposed by the global war on terrorism, a debate has emerged within the United States over reinstating the draft. Driven by foreign policy and national defense concerns, support for a new selective service system is growing, but if the draft is ever reinstated it would likely be administered fairly across racial, economic, and social lines in order to placate opposition and gain the support of the American public.
