The Battle of the Atlantic: Allied Maritime Strategy and Tactics This fourteen page graduate paper examines the strategy and tactics of the Battle of the Atlantic. The author notes that final victory in the North Atlantic did not come easily, due to strategic and tactical disputes within the Allied naval high command, and because of inadequate merchant ships, escorts, and air cover over the vulnerable Allied convoys. These leadership and logistical factors could well have combined to produce defeat for the Allies, but as often happens in war, one sideÂ’s flawed strategies and tactics tend to be offset by the other sideÂ’s flawed strategies and tactics.
