Religious Symbols This paper argues that religious symbols should not be displayed in public buildings or on public land in the United States because to do so is a violation of the First Amendment prohibition against the government's establishing religious orthodoxy and also violates the human and civil rights of religious minorities as well as atheists and agnostics.
