Jefferson, Lewis and Clark and the American Indians This paper contents two separate essays. One is on what motives other than exploration, President Jefferson might have had in sending out the Louis and Clark expedition. Here, it seems that Jefferson from the onset was thinking in terms of political and cultural assimilation of the Indians in the territory.
