Civil War Artillery: Effects of Artillery During the American Civil War. This paper discusses how artillery played a prominent role in nearly all of the major Civil War battles, and a decisive role in many of them. The heavy influence of artillery in determining the outcome of Civil War battles continued the trend that began in the Napoleonic Wars.
