Black Families and Patriarchy. This paper discusses the theme of how the phrase "patriarchal but father-absent" is used to describe the contemporary family. The paper argues how this reality is connected to the different issues presented for Black families as opposed to white families. The paper shows how the society remains patriarchal in the sense that it is male-centred. Black families, meanwhile, have suffered in a different sense, since the forces of racism, as well as the legacy of slavery, have hurt the Black family in a much different context. 5 pgs.
